A method to measure forward scattering in human eyes (straylight) was proposed more than 80 years ago, and the experimental results were presented, but a practical device has only recently appeared. TJ van den Berg has provided us with the basic and useful knowledge about the properties of straylight. To understand his papers clearly, further underlying knowledge is needed. Here, introductory knowledge for understanding scattering and the measurement technique for forward scattering are described.
