The magnetic susceptibilities of molten Ge–Te and Sn–Te alloys have been measured as a function of concentration and temperature. Curves of the isothermal susceptibilities for Sn–Te system show a large deviation from the linearly interpolated ones at the composition near Sn50Te50. On the contrary for molten Ge–Te system a rather small deviation is found around 45 at% of Te. From these results, the electronic state and chemical bonding in liquid IV–Te system are discussed in comparison with those in liquid IIIb–Te system.
