Hydrostatic Pressure Effects on the Moments of the A-Absorption and A_T-Emission Bands in KCl:Tl⁺

The pressure dependences of the first, second and third moments of the Jahn-Teller-induced A-absorption and A_T-emission bands in KCl:Tl⁺ have been observed at room temperature. The changes in the first and third moments with application of a hydrostatic pressure P are proportional to P in both the A-absorption and A_T-emission bands. Moreover, the observed change in the third moment of the A-absorption band is equal to 3⟨ΔE⟩⟨E²⟩ and that of the A_T-emission band is nearly equal to 3⟨ΔE⟩⟨E²⟩. Here ⟨ΔE⟩ and ⟨E²⟩ are the change in the first moment and the second moment of the corresponding band, respectively.
