Abstract

When the screened scum and sludge produced in the treatment of night soil were incinerated, hydrogen cyanide (HCN) was detected in the exhaust gas, whereas HCN were not contaminated in the scum and sludge. The generated amount of HCN was experimentaly determined to clarify the mechanisum, and the following results were obtained. When the sample was incinerated in a quartz tube under the flow of air, the maximum generation of HCN was observe at 700°C, and under the flow of N2, the amount increased with the rise of temperature in the range of 300°-700°C,
