Abstract
Model-based technique for the variable valve engine calibration process, employing engine cycle simulation and polynomial regression analysis, has been developed. In the present technique, the simulation model tuning and validation were done, followed by the creation of a dataset for the regression analysis of charging efficiency using 4th-order polynomial equation. D-optimal design, robust least square method and likelihood-ratio test were demonstrated to yield the robust and accurate regression model. The reliability of the implementation control model, which considers the effect of gas dynamics in the intake manifold, was confirmed using a model-in-the-loop simulation.
