For selective cancer chemotherapy, we prepared successfully needle shaped 5Fu polymer composites. They are mixtures of 5Fu and polyglycolic acid. We found that it took 6 days for them (φ1.5mm, length 1cm, containing 6mg 5Fu) to release 5Fu in 37°C saline.
Yoshida ascites sarcoma (1×105/0.1ml) was inoculated into the subcutaneous tissue of male Donryu rats about 110g in weight. 14 days after, we buried the same ones into each tumor. We found that it took 10days for them to release SFu, and the blood levels of 5Fu were very low, although the intra tumor levels of 5Fu were very high.
We felt that they were very effective for the inoperable malignant tumor.
