Abstract
Effect of temperature on filtration characteristics of EVAL filter was studied in vitro and in clinical test. Larger volume was processed as the temperature was increased up to 42°C. 1.3-1.6 times as large volume was processed in physiological temperature range (37-42°C) as that processed at ambient temperature (28-32°C). Generally, sieving coefficients of macromolecules increased with increasing temperature. Selective separation of macromolecules such as HDL and LDL was achieved in plasma filtration at 37-42°C. Increase in filtration volume with increasing temperature up to 42°C would be mainly related to lowering plasma viscosity with increasing temperature. It was found precipitates were formed in plasma at higher temperature, particularly avove 45°C, and then processed volume decreased compared with that at 37-42°C. Suggestive filtration temperature would be 37-42°C thinking over filtration efficiency and thermostability of macromolecules.
