Orally diluting hemofiltration, in which blood is diluted and supplemented with orally administered electrolytes solution and filtrated, is feasible to maintain human chronic uremics.
Based upon this principle, a compact wearable artificial kidney, which is composed of a hemofiltrator, a new type of blood pump, a filtrate collecting bag, and a control box, but no dialysate delivery system, has been devised. The system functions satisfactorily in an intial clinical application.
