High-silica molecular sieves (zeolites), which belong to microporous crystals, are synthesized using organic templates (=structure-directing agents; SDAs). One of them has a new framework structure and has been named GUS-1 (Gifu University Molecular Sieve No. 1). The GUS-1 has high heat-resistance and uniform sized hydrophobic pores with 12-membered ring. The pore diameter is 6.8×5.4Å. The possibility of high-silica molecular sieves including the GUS-1 for the environmentally benign chemical process is discussed.
