We have developed a tunnel design program which is based on the two-dimensional finite element method, so called NATMFEM. We investigated some problems involved in application of this program to designing for tunnel boring in the swelling bedrock. The problems include estimation of creep modulus in the bedrock, selection of the best rockbolt pattern to be used, expression of slide between bedrock and rock-bolt for analysis, the bedrock and the effect of providing slits in the shotcrete. This report summarizes the results of the investigation.
