Abstract

A hierarchical cable element is presented for the 3-D finite displacement analysis of cable structures. The element is a high order isoparametric element of p-version and highly accurate solutions could be obtained with one element for a extremely slackened cable. Moreover, an adaptive technique is proposed to improve on the efficiency of the numerical calculation of cable structures. The convergency and stability in the computation are demonstrated by several examples.
