Advanced fiber-reinforced laminated composite materials have been used for structural members, because of the ir high specific strength and stiffness. Such laminated composite structures behave differently from homogeneous orthotropic structures due to the effect of lamination constitution. In the present paper, the effect of lamination constitution on the radial buckling pressure of the cross-ply and angle-ply laminated cylindrical shells is analysed by assuming the buckling patterns which exactly satisfy the Donnell-type equilibrium equations. The effects of various factors such as stacking sequence, number of layers, lamination angle, buckling mode and dimension of cylinder, on the radial buckling pressure are clarified.
