This course was intended to aid students in thinking logically and in understanding the fundamental concepts of natural phenomena. We combined physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences and set up a five themes entitled, “Life, Energy, Earth and Environment, Materials, and Science and Culture” . More than 1,800 students, including 810 engineering students, of all the science-related subjects attended these classes. Of the students taking the classes, 62% were favorable to them in 2004 and 68% in 2007, whilst only 50% of the students were positive about the old course in 2003.
