In our college, the introduction courses of computer education for students in three different departments have been carried out since 2011. The authors have been in charge of a basic subject called “Introduction to Microcomputer Programming” for second year students. It is a practice-based “learn and master” type of course using a microcomputer board. The course contents are composed of construction of microcomputers such as CPU, memory and I/O ports, input and output programming for LED lights, switches, sensor devices etc. At the final stage of the course, all the students are assigned to take on a “programming project” the themes of which are to be chosen by the students. This paper reports on the course contents and the programming projects.
