Abstract
The Guideline for Abdominal Ultrasound Cancer Screening was announced by the Japanese Society of Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening in September 2011. Categories were classified on a test basis at this institution as well. The subjects consisted of 22 cases categorized as Class 3 among 328 patients who underwent a complete medical examination at this facility. The cases were divided into groups according to organ, type of post-guidance and ultrasound findings followed by an examination of their breakdown. There were 10 cases involving the liver, 5 involving the gallbladder, 2 involving the pancreas, 3 involving the kidneys and 2 involving the spleen. Eleven of these cases were assigned for follow-up while the remaining 11 cases were determined to require medical treatment. In addition, the subjects were also divided into 13 cases of direct findings, 8 cases of indirect findings and 1 case of a high risk group, and in 6 of the 13 cases of direct findings, since the findings were able to be compared with previous images and changes were not observed, they were assigned for follow-up and determined to require medical treatment following the initial indication. In cases of indirect findings, post-guidance was determined in consideration of comparison with previous images and blood test results. The case of idiopathic luminal dilation was determined to require medical treatment to identify the cause. In the high risk group, emphasis was placed on ultrasound findings at the time of examination, and these subjects were determined to constitute a post-guidance group. Based on this study, it was considered that category 3 cases could be further classified from the viewpoint of post-guidance.
