The climate of Iran varies from arid to semi arid region, receiving the average rainfall of 250mm/year (around one-third the world average). The country is facing serious shortage of water resources. Proper estimation of surface runoff in the mountainous basins of Iran dominated by snowfall is very important to utilize stream flow as reliable water resources and reduce flood and drought disasters. Moreover, there are not reliable enough snow measurement data both temporally and spatially in most of the mountainous basins in the country. In this study estimation of Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) using a Distributed Hydrological Model (DHM) is described and the result is compared with measured snow data.
