Abstract

Biochar produced via pyrolysis of solid fraction of anaerobic digestate was characterized and their performance as additives in anaerobic digestion was evaluated for those produced under different conditions. For digestate-derived biochar, those produced at high temperatures and in a CO2 atmosphere were effective as additives. Since anaerobic digestate is highly reactive with CO2 and coverted to ash at relatively low temperatures, it was found to be important to adjust the generation temperature.
