The variations of dynamic load factors of the beam subjected to axial forces are investigated when transverse impulsive loads w are applied, where w is assumed to be a step function of time which is constant over the span. The relationships between constant axial forces P and dynamic load factors are obtained under various kinds of end conditions. The problem is analysed using Laplace transformation method. Because it is very difficult to obtain an exact solution when P is a function of ξ (co-ordinate of axial direction), analyses are carried out using orthogonal function, where P is assumed to be in the form of (1-ξm). The analysis implies that dynamic load factors are quite different from 2 except in particular cases.
