The purpose of this paper is to give useful information on the outbreak mechanism of the wire oscillation in system of wire and plate electrodes. Some experiments on the string oscillation stretched between the wire and the plate electrodes with corona discharge are made. It is observed that the string oscillation is self-excited with the fundamental natural frequency of the string oscillation. Moreover, the excitation region of the string oscillation is obtained, and that the motion of the string changes through the effect of the fluid force due to corona discharge. As a result, it is confirmed that the fluid force is supposed to be the main reason for the wire and string oscillation.
