Abstract
While operating contact rotating machines, a periodic polygonal deformation pattern is formed on the surface of roll and vibration problems often occur. Such phenomena are called pattern formation phenomena. In previous research, an occurrence mechanism of the phenomena was clarified as unstable vibration due to time delay characteristics. It is necessary for analysis of the actual vibration characteristics after the vibration grows to consider nonlinearities. In this report, single-DOF cylindrical grinding system with nonlinearities is treated. The periodic solutions of the system are obtained with the harmonic balance method. In addition, the polygonal number which appears is surveyed.
