One of the purposes of physical therapy is to reconstruct daily living activities such as standing and sitting motions. For example, for patients whose daily activities are impeded by a limited range of joint motion in the body, it is desirable to provide guidance so that the movement of other body parts optimally compensates for this limitation. In this study, we focused on the movement of the trunk especially of the spinal column when there is some range of motion limitation on the hip joint, which plays an important role in transferring and moving in the body. However, assessment of the motion of the spinal column has been difficult. Therefore, this study conducted motion analysis of the lumber spinal column by using inertial measurement units (IMUs) connecting sheet that was a sheet-like device that 20 IMUs were connected in a row. The IMUs connecting sheet was attached at the back of twenty-two people along the spinal column. Then, the participants performed standing-up and sitting-down motions. From the data of the accelerometer and gyroscope at the motion analysis, the evaluation of movement of the spinal column during standing/sitting motion was calculated. Then, the relationships between motion evaluation indexes and the limitation of the range of motion on the hip were investigated by statistical analysis. As the results, some trend of the relationship between the motion of the spinal column during sitting down motion and the limitation was observed, although a statistically significant difference was not observed.
