Reliability analysis is important to decrease potential of rework in mechanical design. It takes a large percentage of design work. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is one of the most general reliability analysis techniques. In existing FMEA, failure modes are extracted according to parts list. But only main parts are treated usually. Because parts list is not perfect in early phase of design work. So, it is difficult to secure covering failure mode in early phase of design work. To solve this problem, we try to integrate the design intention model and FMEA. In the model, product function is decomposed into tree-structured sub functions and design knowledge is related to each function node. In the integrated model, failure modes are related to each function node too. This enables to secure covering failure mode. In addition we will improve efficiency of making a FMEA sheets.
