Anisotropic creep behavior of an injection molded short carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide (ICF/PA) composite at was examined with particular emphases on the effect of temperature and development of a constitutive model. Constant stress creep tests were performed on dumbbell-shaped specimens that are oriented at the angles of 0°, 45° and 90° with the injection flow direction, respectively. In-plane creep strain field over the gauge part of a specimen was measured by means of a digital image correlation (DIC) method. Experimental results showed that creep deformation develops more significantly with increasing off-axis angle from 0° to 90°. Creep deformation increases with increasing creep stress, as usual, but the stress dependence was insensitive to specimen orientation as well as temperature. In contrast, the time dependence of creep deformation was sensitive to temperature. A phenomenological model was developed to describe the time-, temperature-, stress, and orientation-dependence of the creep behavior observed. The anisotropic creep behavior of ICF/PA at different temperatures can approximately be described by means of the proposed model.
