Abstract
The Research Committee on Brunels (RCB) has been found in November of 2003 at the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, JSME, and a lot of works and events have done. The RCB deals mainly with two Brunels, the great engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1KB, 1806-1859), and his father Marc Isambard Brunel (MIB, 1769-1849). The aim of the RCB is to introduce Brunels into Japan and to be familiarized with Japanese and engineers. In this paper, the activities of the RCB for the aim have been firstly described together with results and effects. Secondary, the relationship between Brunels' works and the RCB's approaches has been introduced. Finally, the way to the destination of the RCB has been introduced and discussed. That is, a small size replica of the atmospheric railway of 1KB has been planed to enhance Japanese people's interest in science and technology, or "monodzukuri" in Japanese has been re-developed.
