Abstract
We examined haptic hand-motion perceptual performances among the following four perceptual modes by psychophysical experiments:(1-a) CoAc-mode(cutaneous-combined-proprioceptive active),(1-b) CoPa-mode(cutaneous-combined-proprioceptive passive),(2-a) PrAc-mode(proprioceptive active),and(2-b) PrPa-mode(proprioceptive passive). From the viewpoints of systematic and random errors, statistical test results suggest that two factors, sensation and initiative, almost independently contribute and additively enhance performance. We also quantitatively determined the contributions of additional cutaneous sensations and individual initiative in haptic length perceptions and found with haptic directional perceptions that persons perceive moving directions with trigonometric systematic error and random error by a root mean square error of 18 to 19°.
