To determine the allowable flaw size of the rotating main shaft, a crack growth test of 30CrNiMo8 material was carried out, and the threshold stress intensity factor range was confirmed at a stress ratio R=0.05 and 0.5 and 0.8. Based on the experimental results, we calculated the crack propagation length from flaw growth data, which was given as a function of a stress ratio, and determined the allowable flaw size 1.6mm in consideration of a safety factor.
