Benard convection is a buoyancy induced convection caused by temperature differences in fluids [1-2]. In thermal flows with an open end, such as in the present experiment, the surface tension effect (Marangoni effect), which originates from the temperature difference, is also affected, depending on the conditions. In this study, infrared thermography and PIV measurements of Rayleigh-Benard convection with a free boundary are carried out, and the thermal transport phenomena are clarified in detail through effective post-processing such as signal processing and spectral analysis based on the obtained data.
