Cutting resistance always load in the tool during machining process. A sharp increase in cutting resistance causes wear and breakage of the tool, so risk can be reduced if it is possible to predict the cutting resistance before these work and interrupt cutting. Therefore, in this study, shape information of the object in the moving direction was acquired before processing, estimation of the cutting area not predicting the shape information beforehand and estimation of the cutting resistance were performed. For measurement of the shape of the work, an optical cutting method was used. The laser beam is photographed with an image sensor, and the shape of the laser cross section is reconstructed as a 3D point group by using the coordinates measured by the encoder. Repeated this process to estimate the cutting area. Furthermore, this study succeeded in calculating the cutting resistance using the reconstructed 3D point cloud and the cutting resistance prediction program.
