Abstract

The author was surprised at the fossils of the ivory of the Naumann's elephant excavated in Shimane prefecture displayed in the Kyoto University Museum. In addition, many fossils of Naumann's elephant have been found from Lake Nojiri in Nagano Prefecture. The Japanese archipelago was connected to the Eurasian Continent of the ancient world. About 10,000 years before present, the glacial epoch of Würm IV ended. The climate became warm climate, the glacier melted into the sea, the expansion of the warmed seawater brought the rise of sea level. The sea level during the glacier epoch was rather low about 120m than present. The Sea of Japan was freshwater lake. The Tsushima Strait (Korea Strait) has generated due to the sea level rise, and branch of the Black Stream Current flowed into the lake about 25,000 years before present and the Sea of Japan was formed. Due to this effect, Japan was formed climate of much rains and rich forests. In the glacial epoch of the Würm IV before global warming, people with skills of hunting arrived from the Eurasian Continent to ancient Japan pursuing the mammoth, Naumann's elephant and Otsuno-shika. This is thought to be origins of Japanese present fabrication technologies. In this paper, author mainly describes Naumann's elephant which lived and arisen source of technology in ancient Japan.
