The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) published a new booklet on March 2004. The name of this one is the "Memorials in Mechanical Engineering -Railway Edition: Electric Railcars and Electric Multiple Units (EMU)-". In this booklet, there are 22 industrial heritages preserving in Japan. This report intends to introduce the planning of this booklet by listing up significant electric railcars and electric multiple units (EMU) to be compiled. The characteristics of each enlisted one are herewith explained in view of the history of technology.
