Abstract
So far, in pervious virtual reality systems, haptic presentation devices have been developed and their usages have been discussed. However, combination effects of tactile and haptic sensations have not been investigated in spite of their possibilities on virtual reality systems. In this study, we developed a mouse capable of presenting pressure distribution and slippage force to discuss the combination effects on virtual reality. The mouse was equipped with bimorph piezoelectric actuators and electro-magnetic linear motors to present pressure and slippage force respectively. In order to examine the enhancement of tactile reality using pressure and slippage presentation, we develop a psychophysical experimental method and software to perform the developed method. In the method, standard and comparison edges are presented for human subjects, who judge the deference between them and adjust the direction of comparison edge to coincide with standard edge. In pressure presentation, we develop a new interpolation method as well and examine its effect using a series of computer simulations.
