This paper describes nano second analyses on the basis of the unsteady wave sensing system (UWSS) for the plate impact testing. Stress as a function of time at three locations in the PMMA specimen are obtained every two nano seconds by using PVDF gauges. Waveforms of stress, strain and particle-velocity are derived from the conservation relations of momentum and mass in the shock wave region where both phase velocity of stress and that of particle-velocity exceed the longitudinal sound velocity. The decay of the amplitude of both stress waveform and the particle-velocity waveform is demonstrated.
