Abstract
In this study, friction tests were performed to investigate effect of nanostripe structure on lubrication properties at extremely low sliding speed. Four kinds of nanostripe surface geometries were used for investigation. Friction tests were carried out using a pin-on-plate test apparatus under various load and speed conditions. When the sliding direction was parallel to the nano-grooves, measured friction coefficient was lower than that of orthogonal sliding. The nanostripe structures remained after friction tests when the sliding direction was parallel to the nano-grooves, the combination of orthogonal and parallel stripes pattern also showed a low friction coefficient. The results indicated that nanostripe structure improved lubrication properties because the micro and nano grooves reserved the lubricant oil.
