In this paper, hybrid active magnetic bearings (HAMBs) that consist of electromagnets and permanent magnets are used to suspend a flexible rotor without mechanical contact. A disk is installed on the middle of the flexible shaft as the function of a a flywheel. The stiffness of the HAMBs are measured, and a controller is improved based on the measurement results. The natural frequencies of the shaft were measured by a hanging test. Finally, levitation and rotation tests are conducted, and the effect of the gyro moment of the disk is investigated.
