Friction stir incremental forming (FSIF) process was applied to join an open-cell nickel foam with a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheet. A rod-shaped tool with rotation was pushed into the sheet on the nickel foam and fed horizontally. Due to local friction heating by the tool rotation, the PMMA sheet was locally softened and flown into the nickel foam under conditions of tool rotation rate of 6000rpm and tool feed rate of 10mm/min, so that the PMMA sheet was mechanically interlocked to the nickel foam.
