Cylindrical roller bearings used in the traction motors of rail vehicles may become unusable due to wear of the cage. In order to reduce the wear of the cage, it is necessary to reduce the contact force between the rollers and the cage, and it is effective to reduce the mass of the cage. Therefore, a trial bearing with an epoxy-glass cage and ceramic rollers, which is lighter than the current bearing, was developed. This bearing was subjected to a rotation test equivalent to running 1.2 million km. The results showed that the trial bearing have at least the same performance as the current bearing.
