In this study, the authors are developing a technology for monitoring the lubrication conditions of the wheel flange and outer rail gauge corners using a PQ monitoring bogie. In urban subway systems, many sharp curves are present. In these sharp curves, lubrication is applied at the contact points between the wheel flanges and rail gauge corners to prevent wheel and rail wear, as well as squeaking noise. However, excessive lubrication can result in wheel slip or idling. Additionally, rail damage such as shelling, caused by rolling contact fatigue, can occur, emphasizing the importance of appropriate lubrication. Therefore, it is essential to monitor the lubrication conditions between the wheels and rails. Current monitoring methods, however, heavily rely on manual track inspections, which are labor-intensive. To address these issues, the authors are developing a lubrication monitoring technology that utilizes a PQ monitoring bogie capable of measuring the forces acting on both the wheel flanges and rail gauge corners during regular operation. This technology allows for the continuous monitoring of lubrication conditions at the contact points between the wheel flanges and rail gauge corners, and the details of this development are presented in this paper.
