This paper describes the method and results of an experiment on the aerodynamic effects between cars during passing maneuver. Two simplified shape bodies were placed in a towing water tank and the aerodynamic forces were measured and analyzed. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model was performed as to simulate the transient aerodynamic phenomena. The results obtained show that the spacing between cars has a significant effect on the handling stability.
