Results of collaborative research by "Subcommittee on Superalloys and Coatings" in the Society of Materials Science, Japan (JSMS), are presented, which cover the adhesive strengths of the air plasma sprayed thermal barrier coatings (APS-TBC). In this project, the effects of the process variables in APS and the isothermal high temperature aging on the adhesive strength of the TBC were investigated by the tensile adhesion test according to JIS H8666 and several special adhesion tests. It was shown by the round-robin tests that the influence of the process variables on the adhesive strength shows the different result by difference in the test method. In addition, the adhesive strength of the TBC depended on the stress state near the interface.
