A highly plastic clay in the Osaka formation is known as the soil having unusual characteristics, and it gives many troubles in construction works.
One of the reasons is that the soil contains a large amount of colloidal materials and a small amount of montmorillonite. This fact, however, offers a proper condition for lime stabilization.
The aim of the present study is to find the effects of compaction and stabilization with quick lime on the soil by the measurement of pore size distribution.
The result shows that the pore size distribution of a compacted specimen and the compressive strength are closely correlated each other. The behaviour of over-compaction found in the soil can be avoided with the lime stabilization.
