Abstract
A method is presented for stabilizing the m=1 kink instability by means of the l=1 high-frequency magnetic field superimposed on a linear, static screw-pinch field. It is shown that the magnetic well obtained by this technique cancels the potential due to the toroidal force, and a new toroidal equilibrium is obtained.
