In February 2025, the Japanese Society of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine (JSPFSM) officially established the Health Exercise Instructor Network. This paper reports on the network’s background, fundamental principles, and future vision. Since the certification system’s inception in 1988, Health and Exercise Trainers have played a vital role as public health professionals in diverse settings. However, systematic opportunities for professional exchange and knowledge sharing within the Society remained limited. The network was founded on three core principles: (1) enhancing professional activities through member exchange, (2) sharing scientific findings and disseminating information to society, and (3) improving social standing and cultivating the next generation. At the kick-off meeting held during the 79th Annual Meeting in FY2024, 40 participants engaged in an active exchange of information. Post-event survey results revealed that 71.4% of respondents are involved in research and 57.1% in practical exercise instruction, highlighting that many members function as “hybrid professionals” balancing both research and practice. To build a nationwide network, the network has introduced a unique “relay-style” leadership system, where representatives are appointed from the host regions of the annual JSPFSM meetings. By bridging field-based practical wisdom with academic evidence, the network aims to support practitioners and contribute to the health and longevity of the nation.
