The purpose of this study was to examine the learning instruction of the long jump in the third and fourth grades of elementary school children. The subjects in this study were 46 children (23 boys and 23 girls) of the third grade and 50 children (19 boys and 31 girls) of the fourth grade.In the unit of 6 classes, “The rhythm up long jump” (approach run by 9 steps) was practiced as main teaching materials. The skill of the long jump of the children was evaluated through the criteria for observational evaluation of the long jump and the evaluation table about landing with both legs. As a result, followings were clarified. 1.“The rhythm up long jump” (approach run by 9 steps) was effective in improving the record of the jump as teaching materials of long jump in the third and fourth grades of elementary school children. 2.In the class of long jump in the third and fourth grades of elementary school children, it was important to instruct the technique of landing with both feet set in the landing in addition to landing with both legs, and it was preferable to instruct it to positively in the stage of the third grade about the instruction of the technique of landing. 3.In the fourth grade, it was preferable to instruct the technique of rhythm up in last 3-5 steps in the approach run which decided a count of steps, and it was preferable to instruct the technique of rhythm up in the last phase of the approach run from the stage of the fourth grade. 4.In the class of long jump in the third and fourth grades of elementary school children, it was important to instruct the children to do rhythmical approach run being conscious of steps of the approach run.
