In this paper, we present the basic structural characteristic of steel frames with studs. Specifically, the structural characteristics to be presented are restoring force characteristics (Q−δ relationship), damping characteristics (equivalent damping constant). First, we formulate the structural characteristics of steel frames with studs cut out from a continuous frame. Next, the structural characteristics of the steel frame with studs in the flayer is formulated. Finally, by using the formalized calculation formula we present a method of using steel frames with studs as hysteretic dampers. In use, the existing earthquake response constrained design method is applied.
