Abstract

BGP routes are increasing day by day and their number was reported to be over 700 thousands in March, 2017. Processing too many routes consumes a lot of CPU time of routers, therefore the routers spend a long time changing routes when a failure occurs. In this paper, we analyze reasons for spending the long time changing routes originating in BGP specification. We propose an ISP/DC network architecture that enables to shorten the time changing BGP routes and its implementation using OpenFlow. We propose a fast switch method for huge number of flows. We evaluate the implementation and show that our method can reroute a million flows of Japanese nationwide network with less than 100 millisecond.
