Kanzaki Mill, New Oji Paper Co., Ltd. is located in Amagasaki city which is in the south east of Hyogo prefecture. Amagasaki is adjacent to Osaka city bordered by the Kanzaki river, and is also surrounded by Mt. Ikoma to the east and Mt. Rokko on the north. This town still has a traditional good atomosphere brought up by warm heart and cooperative residents.
Here, in Amagasaki, as same as in other industrial areas in Japan, we have been forced to face some changes of environment such as construction of high storied apartments and a more severe control of pollution by local authorities as the result of environmental pollution suits.
Under these situations, we must positively make efforts to solve the problems in order to meet more severe enviromental standards on air and water pollution, legislated by Amagasaki city and Hyogo prefecture.
Then we commenced studying it, focusing on choice of energy, which would result in a progress of rationalization of production and would meet our future conception of the mill adjacent to urban centers.
We have come to the conclusion that No.4 boiler should be converted from heavy oil type to natural gas type. New boiler has come on stream in July 1991. Therefore, we wish to report our experience of No.4 boiler operation for two years.
