We studied the discriminating region of the color difference judged by experts who engaged in color inspection on woven fabrics.
We found that the correlation coefficient between the color difference(ΔEp) perceived by the experts and the color difference (ΔE*ab) calculated from CIELAB is extremely high. Also, we found that color discriminating region of experts who have a long experiences on color inspection is established in smaller region than the region given by MacAdam. Further we proposed the judging method to determine the boundary of color difference by using an approximate ellipse of the discriminating region in CIELAB.
