Dermatophytosis Caused by Microsporum gypseum was found in 2 male and 1 female puppies born from a mongrel 6 years old with brown hair. Primary lesions were observed simultaneously at about 2 weeks of age. By 1 month of age lesions were scattered on legs and tail, and small lesions on back and abdomen. Microsporum gypseum was purely isolated from hair and scale. The dam of the puppies had no lesions or dermatophytes detected.
Thepuppies were treated by oral administration with 22 mg/kg of griseofulvin and topical application with an iodine preparation (Isodin). The lesions were completely cured in about 1 month.
M. gypseum was isolated abundantly. From the soil of the birth place.
