Abstract

The utility of the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was assessed for detection of antibody to Chuzan virus, by using positive antigens obtained from BHK-21 cells infected with Chuzan virus and negative antigens from non-infected BHK-21 cells, through processing with Nonidet P-40.
For this assay, 1/100 diluted non-inactivated serum and 1/200 diluted enzyme-labeled antibody were prepared, and the difference in their OD values for each antigen was regarded as the ELISA value of the serum. When the serum giving ELISA value of 0.200 or more was supposed to be antibody-positive, a close correlation between ELISA antibody and neutralizing antibody was observed (r=0.83, y=-0.124+0.33x).
