Two strains ofCampylobacter jejuniisolated from a human sporadic diarrhea case and a healthy cow were examined to clarify the quantity of endotoxin production and pyrogenicity to rabbits. Both strains were grown microaerobically in brain heart infusion broth at 42°Cfor 7 days. These culture supernatants filtered through 0.45 and 0.20μm-filter after centrifugation were endotoxin-positive in the Limulus test at a dilution of 106. And the minimum pyrogenic dose which elicits a rise in temperature of 0.6°Cin rabbits, was 1ml/kg administration of 102diluted sample with both strains.
